    Abstract:

    Precise biological monitoring is essential for safeguarding the safety bottom line in building a Beautiful China. Based on state-of-the-art environmental DNA (eDNA) technology and combining eight novel studies in eDNA issue of Journal of Lake Sciencesin 2025, this paper provides a brief review of the latest innovations, key challenges and bottlenecks in eDNA technology, and future development directions, with a view to informing multi-application scenarios in the context of global ecological security.
